Hi. I'm Zak. It's 4AM and I'm taking a break from writing code to write nonsense a short autobiography.

In the long term, I'm looking for potential startup partners. In the short term, I'm looking for hackers to talk to and bounce ideas off of. Eventually, one of those discussions might lead to a startup.

I started programming at a very early age using a RAD tool from Apple called Hypercard. It had a drag and drop interface builder and a scripting language that I'm told was heavily influenced by Smalltalk. Everyone told me that real programming had to be done in C, which might have been true at the time. I made several attempts to write applications in C, starting at the age of 11. Every time, I gave up because trying to do anything interesting was painfully time-consuming. Much later, I discovered PHP when I had to add dynamic features to a website. Despite that language's obvious limitations, it reminded me that programming is fun, and more importantly that "real" programming doesn't have to be painfully low-level. Since then, I've discovered a variety of languages that I find enjoyable. I've written things ranging from a point of sale backend in Lisp to a memory tester in Forth. Ruby and Common Lisp are my languages of choice right now.

I don't have a degree, and I'm not currently in school. I had planned to take a semester off... that was five years ago. Now, I fix computers and occasionally develop web applications for money. I'm currently formulating an evil plot to build an army of killer robots create a social networking service using machine learning techniques and take over the world.
